Conference 2009 in the Tropics

Those who have been hanging out for a Reporting conference, come to beautiful Cairns 21 to 23 August when it will be nothing but instant relaxation, blue skies, warm temperatures and beautiful flora and scenery in a 5-star venue and when the minimum overnight temperature will be 17° Celsius and the maximum a wonderful 27° - and that's during the Southern Hemisphere's winter season! The rainfall average tumbles from 413mm in January to just 27mm in August.

Plan a holiday around the conference, before or after. Conference airfares and accommodation are tax deductible provided that is related to your income.

The conference program will cover everything and you'll be in good company. SRAA management committee members will welcome you, wonderful presenters will speak the Reporting language, and if you've always promised yourself you would get that high speed you've always dreamed of getting, you will be able to do that too. There will be induction into the Hall of Fame, and fabulous Saturday night entertainment, Flames of the Forest. The conference will be full-on up to closing time on Sunday, so whatever you do, don't book to go home early!

We need at least 70 participants, but I promise you we will happily deal with the exquisite difficulty of having to find room for hundreds! There is a good conference fee reduction for members. Support your SRAA: it is the only group that cares about keeping shorthand Reporting alive - and kicking - and with plans to take shorthand Reporting well into the twenty-second century and make sure it is around forever.

See you in Palm Cove!!

SRAA's future

SRAA's future

The SRAA AGM for 2009 was held in August at the Cairns 2009 International Conference. Apart from the President being willing to accept another term, no nominations were received for management committee positions. A caretaker board was put in place until October 2009, made up of long-serving and outstanding committee members, Sue Mendra, Kath Jones and Polly Templeton.

The condition of the SRAA continuing was as follows (see minutes):

... a decision will be made based on a response from the membership and the industry on whether they wish the SRAA to continue and contingent upon receiving management committee nominations plus a proposal for future conduct of the association that was adequate and cohesive.

Unfortunately membership and industry support has not been forthcoming.

The association has not been closed pending talks with ACRIA.

The SRAA management committee may devolve into a smaller core group that will operate for 12 months. During that time there will be an attempt to fill the following temporary positions:

Position
        Term
        Person (suggestion only)

President
        2-year
        Sue Mendra

Treasurer
        1-year

Secretary
        1-year

Committee Member (PR editor/web site manager)
        1-year

Committee Member
        1-year

The primary task of the core group will be to restructure the constitution and facilitate discussions with like-minded reporting associations, such as ACRIA.

If the proposal for temporary continuation does not work, the SRAA will have to consider taking steps to close the association.

SRAA will be utilising some of the UQ research that will produce an aptitude test to assist in recruitment, which is why the UQ testing is so important to maintaining deadlines. SRAA special thanks go to Nick and Connie Stefano of Right Touch for their outstanding support for the good cause of keeping reporting skills alive. Thanks also to Trevor Fowler for his assistance.
