Past accreditation papers

Accreditation exam details

The SRAA will hold accreditation examinations in the following cities, subject to receiving applications from candidates: Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide

The exam consists of the following two parts:

Part A Shorthand speed tests:

ACSR (Associate Certified Shorthand Reporter):

  • 5 mins parliamentary material @ 120 wpm
  • 5 mins court material @ 140 wpm
  • 5 mins Q & A material @ 160 wpm

CSR (Certified Shorthand Reporter):

  • 5 mins parliamentary material @ 160 wpm
  • 5 mins court material @ 180 wpm
  • 5 mins Q & A material @ 200 wpm

CSR(A) (Certified Shorthand Reporter (Advanced)):

  • 5 mins parliamentary material @ 200 wpm
  • 5 mins court material @ 220 wpm
  • 5 mins Q & A material @ 240 wpm

Part B Written tests:

10 parliamentary knowledge questions
10 legal knowledge questions
40 general knowledge questions
40 English grammar and spelling questions

The tests will be conducted in accordance with AS/NZS 4272:1995 (Shorthand Reporters' Tests).

Part B is common to all levels of accreditation. Candidates who have previously passed Part B at one level of accreditation and this year wish to sit for a higher level of accreditation should seek an exemption from sitting for Part B and should pay the reduced entry fee.

Fees (Updated 8 April 2002):

  • $100 for parts A and B
  • $50 for part A or B

Applications should be made on the application forms that have been made available to all public sector reporting agencies and a number of private sector agencies.

2009 Hall of Fame and Distinguished Services Award recipients

In 2009 Lesley Dankbaar, Errol Carter and Trevor Fowler were awarded the Hall of Fame Award.

Kath Jones and Polly Templeton were awared the Distinguished Services Award.

Details will be posted to the Hall of Fame when available.

VET/matriculation - machine shorthand in high schools
SRAA will be utilising some of the UQ research that will produce an aptitude test to assist in recruitment, which is why the UQ testing is so important to maintaining deadlines. SRAA special thanks go to Nick and Connie Stefano of Right Touch for their outstanding support for the good cause of keeping reporting skills alive. Thanks also to Trevor Fowler for his assistance.
